KRAH MEXICO JOINING METHODS
Krah Mexico pipes have the widest variety of joining methods, ranging from rubber gaskets, thermofusion, electrofusion, flanges and extrusion welding. We highly recommend our patented electrofusion joining procedure, given its simplicity and high reliability.
Krah Integrated Electrofusion
In recent years, pipe and connections welding by electrofusion has constituted frequently used method in todays market. Because it’s a simple and safe joint. Krah took this as a sign and to favor current market demands, developed its own electrofusion bell and spigot joining system, which it can be included in every single diameter we manufacture.
This joining method work by introducing the spigot into the bell of the pipe, then inducing an electrical current through the resistance pre-equipped in the bell of the pipe and by raising the temperature and applying pressure, both ends of the pipe will join on a molecular level making the joint last as long as the HDPE will.
Fundamental advantages of electrofusion joints
- Fast welding
- Reasonably priced electrofusion equipment
- Able to work on narrow spaces
- Large diameter pipes can be electro fused from the inside of the pipe
- Quick and easy assembly using different electrofusion equipments
- Great elongation resistance
- Water tight and permanent joint
EASY, FAST AND SAFE
Other joining methods
Additionally, to our electrofusion system, our pipes can be manufactured with alternative joining methods, to adapt to every possible scenario found in a project.
“V” extrusion welding
The ends of the pipe are prepared in a “V” fashion to then apply manual extrusion welding to join each pipe. With this sort of joints, pipe usually don’t have a bell and spigot end.
Extrusion welding
Pipe are delivered in a bell and spigot configuration, once the spigot is inserted into de bell, the extrusion weld is applied. The weld can be applied inside and outside of the pipe. This joint is suitable to gravity flow applications
Butt welding
The pipe can be produced to be joined through butt welding. This system is recommended only when the pipes have a maximum thickness of 150 mm and for diameters ranging between 18 and 96 inches. This process must be in accordance to ASTM F2620.
Flange
The ends of the pipes are joined using a flange and a rubber gasket. Flanges are manufactured along with the same pipe so it will be a monolithic piece, and it won’t have any leaking problems. This system is most commonly used in open discharges or for tank connections. The great advantage of a flange is just how easy is to connect and disconnect.
Double rubber gasket
This joint uses a bell and a spigot, now including two rubber gaskets which are installed in the spigot to then be inserted into de bell. All our gaskets are manufactured by ASTM F477 standards. This is not a permanent joint, like a flange, but not as easy to disassemble. The ends must have a minimum thickness according to ASTM F894-13 and ISO 21138.
Krah Mexico strongly recommends electrofusion joints
Pipe performance is conditioned by its weakest link, which usually is the pipe’s joints. By this logic, the most adequate joint will always be electrofusion, given that it provides the pipeline an unmatched uniformity. Guaranteeing its correct performance and water tightness for the entire pipe’s lifespan.
